What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural state similar to that feeling you have just after you awake in the morning. You are in complete control but nicely relaxed and feeling good. Hypnotherapy makes use of this ‘trance’ state to help you make positive changes in your life. Most people can be hypnotised if they choose to be and some, about 1 in 20, can go into what is called ‘deep trance’. Light to medium trance is enough for effective therapy and even in deep trance the you can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to any of the therapist’s suggestions. The experience is like day dreaming - but someone else guides you through the dream. It is a powerful experience because, in trance, the subconscious mind is brought into play; it cannot understand negative concepts, so positive changes are easier to make. As a result many problems can be overcome because change is so much easier.

 

Hypnotherapy is not magic; it is a partnership. You must want to change and then I can help you achieve your goal. For example, if someone comes to see me and says “Make me want to give up smoking” I can do little. If they say “I want to stop smoking” then, in 90% of cases, they can stop after one session. The desire to change has to be yours. Then I can give you a massive boost in the direction of positive change.
