help for victims of crime

Hypnotherapy and how it can help victims of crime and abuse

Victims of crime face some unique challenges, as when and if the crime has been solved, someone has been found guilty and punished, they should be happy to go in with their lives. Yet in the real world, for many, it doesn't work like that.

Victims of crime are thrown into a world that they never asked for; they may lose trust in friends, family, colleagues and even robbing them of their own belief to protect themselves.

One of our basic needs is that of security, to feel safe and secure, either out and about or in our own house. When that basic need has been violated, we may never feel the same again.

If victims are fortunate enough to not have suffered physical injuries or have recovered from them, many go onto discover that the emotional impact is deeper than they ever could imagine, and they may experience a wide range of effects, sometimes for months or years after the crime has been committed.

These can include anxiety, depression, irrational fear, inability to go out in public, avoidance of things that remind them of the crime, a short temper, feeling "always on alert", trouble sleeping, disturbing dreams, struggling to emotionally connect with others, feeling distant, feeling "off". These feelings are identical in many cases to those who suffer from PTSD.

You may have tried to cover up these feelings in the hope that you will not sound needy or weak to family, friends and colleagues, yet inside you still carry the trauma and all the associated after effects. Putting a brave face can work in the short term, but only for so long and only in safe environments.

Given time some people can get over this experience without help. However for some people, a traumatic experience can set off a reaction that can last for months and years, and they may begin to re-experience that horrible occurencein the form of memories, flashbacks, nightmares or hallucinations, and if untreated this can persist for years.

If you're living with the results of a crime, effective help can mean the difference between true relief or a life half-lived.

How Hypnotherapy can help victims of crime

The simple fact is that you feel this way because something happened to make you feel like this, and you're allowed to feel like you do, in fact you're allowed to feel all your feelings. The good feelings tell us were on the right track, and the bad ones tell us we have to change something. Accepting this statement can be the start of the journey back to normality.

Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment to help release you from this nightmare of feeling trapped by past events. We will work together to break the link between the event and the emotions generated, thereby allowing you to move on with your life.
